Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Local Offer
- Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities
In addition to the two large, colourful play rooms we have a separate sensory area. This is available for children who may need a bit of quiet time whilst still in the play room. When not in use it is used as a quiet reading corner. Julie McNally (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator - SENCo) and Debbie King (deputy SENCo) completed training on 26th June 2018 for developing ways in which all children but specifically those with additional needs are kept at the centre of our thinking. The training also involved parents, so we were able to listen to parent's perspectives. Recent WellComm training has allowed us to play games in the setting with individual children to ascertain any concerns regarding Speech and language development. Through this tool we are able to gauge a child's level of understanding ad make a speech referral if necessary or tools to support a child within the setting. We work closely with Speech and Language Therapists (SALT), Portage and our Educational Psychologist to ensure any child needing a referral is provided with the best support possible. We also work closely with our feeder school and their SENCo to ensure children beginning school are getting the smoothest transition possible. We have an open-door policy where parents/carers can discuss their child at any time.
