Additional Information
We are based in a lovely natural setting in the grounds of Hayeswood 1st School. Chrysalis offers a calm, welcoming environment where children have extensive opportunities to explore and investigate which helps them to become independent learners. We provide our children with useful skills that help to prepare them well for starting school. Many of our children go on to attend Hayeswood but we have excellent links with all local 1st schools. We have a wide range of Montessori learning materials and other modern resources. We offer flexible sessions and open all-year-round to offer parents a choice of Full-time or Term-time attendance. Parents can use their early education funding entitlement at any time during our opening hours. Please note that a place in a school nursery does not guarantee admission to the school on site. Parents/carers must apply for a place at the school if you want your child to transfer to the school’s reception class. See www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/school-admissions for more information and to apply.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Local Offer

Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities

At Chrysalis, we believe all children should be encouraged and enabled to achieve their own unique potential as they embark on their learning journey with us. Every child at Chrysalis is assigned their own Key Worker who oversees their individual learning and pastoral care and development during their time with us. However, we are a small setting and all staff members work with all of the children during their time with us as we strongly believe this is an important part of nursery life; learning to communicate and participate with different people. Key Workers use daily observations, individual planning and cohort tracking, linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum to monitor and assess your child’s progress and development, and through this will be able to determine if they need extra support in any area. Key workers will involve parents and carers throughout this process, as your input matters. Chrysalis has experience of supporting children with a wide range of needs including speech and language difficulties, autism, cerebral palsy and epilepsy. We often work closely with parents and outside agencies such as speech therapists, Health Visitors and Portage Workers. This combination of support leads to the use of targeted activities and individual planning as needed. For those children leaving us to attend school, we help to prepare them for their ‘next steps’ through role play and dress up, photographs and visits from teachers from their chosen schools. This will also include forwarding relevant information as to your child’s individual needs, as well as completing Transition information linked to the EYFS or even preparing targeted Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP) in conjunction with relevant professionals to maintain consistency in your child’s educational support. Please contact our Principal, Perdy Haynes (also our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) on 01202 880990 or email perdy@montessorinurseries.co.uk. Please see our website for further information; www.montessorinurseries.com
