Accessibility
- Wheelchair accessible
- Most of the school is accessible for wheelchair users. There are ramped entrances at the side entrances to the school and the rear top playground is accessible via a slope to the side although this is rather steep due to the hillside behind the school.
- Parking availability information
- On site parking, drop off facilities, a disability bay.
- Toilet facility information
- Ground floor toilet, wheelchair accessible toilet, facilities for intimate care for older children with additional needs.
- Other Facilities
- As we are a very small school we would have flexibility to meet many additional needs and could provide hearing-friendly and vision-friendly environments as required. Also learning activities could be taken outside if necessary. Staff would be able to create zoned and calming areas for children who would benefit from this type of provision.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Local Offer
- Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities
Winterbourne Valley CE VA First School is a small rural school with three classes, with a Pre-School onsite. The school is part of the Dorchester Area Schools Partnership (DASP).¦The school is committed to providing all children, including children with SEND, with the best learning opportunities possible. We are able to provide focused in-class support, additional small group work and 1:1 support. As necessary, we refer to outside agencies for further guidance and support, and we liaise closely with them to ensure that your child receives the appropriate specialised education and care that they require. Admission Arrangements: Winterbourne Valley CE VA First School uses the local authority arrangement for School Admissions. The agreement is mindful of national requirements supporting all children, including those who are disabled, in a fair and non-discriminatory way, when securing admission to school. In addition to this the school makes appropriate reasonable adjustments to accommodate those who are disabled. Where adaptations are required to support physical or medical needs, the school liaises with the local authority, health services and parents/carers to ensure that appropriate arrangements are made to meet individual medical conditions. Basic building facilities (eg. parking and wheel chair access). Most areas of the school are accessible for all children. The Reception/Year 1 and Year 2 classrooms, the Hall and other learning areas are on one level. The Year 3 / 4 classroom is separate and has to be accessed from outside. However, ramp access is provided so that all areas can be reached easily. Within the classrooms, there is space for a range of mobility equipment such as wheel chairs, standing frames, walkers. We are also able to provide disabled toilet facilities.
