Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Local Offer

Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities

Wool Pre-school runs from the Kids of Wool Building which is a purpose-built for children's groups. The KOW building is on ground level throughout and has good accessibility and disabled toilet facilities. Wool Pre-school is committed to being inclusive of all children and their families. We aim to meet the needs of all children and to tailor activities to each individual child's strengths and abilities. We work closely with parents when enrolling children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and this ensures that additional support can be put in place. Each child has a key-person who will liaise with parents on a daily basis to support every child's learning, development and well-being. All staff have a small group of children to care for. Staff support each child by identifying each child’s strengths, abilities and special interests and they use this information to plan activities for each child. Wool Pre-school follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Every child will be at a different stage within this curriculum. Staff assess where within the curriculum each child is and then plan activities for their next steps from this assessment. Each child's needs will differ and staff work with specialists to ensure that they have the knowledge and skills to support all children’s different needs. All staff attend relevant training to support all children including children who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. A risk assessment is used when planning trips outside the setting which includes supporting children with SEND on trips.
