Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities

We are a village preschool in the grounds of a newly built First School offering a welcoming and inclusive environment for children aged 2 years 9 months to 4 years. We provide a setting for children with SEND to access and activities and opportunities at their level of ability and involvement. We offer taster sessions in Pre-school which offers the opportunity for parents and staff to discuss any individual needs. This allows the setting to gain a more holistic view of the child from the outset. We have experience in completing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) and work closely with other Professionals, such as, Health visitors, Portage, Hearing and Vision Support Service (HVSS), Speech and language Therapists, Occupational Therapist and Social Workers. We provide a high ratio of adults, with 1:1 support if necessary and have supported children with a wide range of abilities and needs. All children have a key person who work with the setting SENCO, however, children with 1:1 funding will have an individual key person exclusively allocated to them. They will create individual plans to support and monitor the child’s progress. Although we recognise the need for 1:1 support it is also a priority to allow the child independence and to form peer interactions during the sessions. Continuing professional development for staff is a high priority in the setting. Recent whole staff training includes Signalong, PEIC-D, IEP workshop, PECS, Behaviour management, SALT. We invite parents to attend if applicable to their child.
