Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Local Offer
- Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities
I aim to provide a warm, welcoming and inclusive setting, where each child is valued and thrives. I provide a nurturing environment, where children learn through play and have fun. Parents are welcome to come and visit and children are welcome to attend settling in sessions. Parents fill in an ‘all about me’ form which gives me a starting point of getting to know a child and plan for their learning and development. I use The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) areas of learning and development when I do observations, assessments and planning. This ensures that I meet the individual developmental needs of each child. I use Tapestry which is an on-line learning journal. Observations and next steps inform me on what level of development each child is at and their individual interests. These can then be incorporated in my planning. I get to know the children very well and observations and assessment help to identify if there are any areas of learning that may need additional support. I have supported a child and their parents in getting assessed for additional developmental needs. Working in partnership with the child’s parents, health visitor, and key worker from another setting enabled me to produce an informed individual plan, used to support the child’s needs and development. At two years old a progress check is required. The progress check has been introduced to ensure earlier identification of development needs so that additional support can be put in place including support from other professionals where appropriate. Training is undertaken regularly, I am happy to work closely with parent/carers and outside agencies to learn specific skills to support children with additional needs.
