Parents can use their early education funding entitlement at any time during opening hours. We are open all year round, but offer term time sessions to children aged 3 to school age. Setting has an inclusion / equal opportunities policy. Please note that a place in a school nursery does not guarantee admission to the school on site. Parents/carers must apply for a place at the school if you want your child to transfer to the school’s reception class. See www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/school-admissions for more information and to apply. From April 2024, Orchard will be offering the extended funded places for 2 year olds, and in September 2024, will be offering the extended funding to babies of 9 months and over.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Local Offer

Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities

We have a fully inclusive setting and support children with additional needs. Our nursery manager is a very experienced SENco and has two supporting SEN advisers in the team. Staff have training in ASD, Behaviour management, Speech and Language support, PECs (Picture Exchange Communication), Peic'd (Promoting early interaction conversations in Dorset) amongst others. Please telephone the nursery for advice and to discuss your individual needs. We are fully committed to further staff training and to provide excellent support to every child who attends our setting. We meet regularly with the families of children with SEND and involve parents and carers in all aspects of decision making and plans for your child. As a nursery, we have positive and effective working relationships with Portage, Occupational Therapy, Poole CDC and any other professionals involved with the care of your child.
