We are a registered term time preschool, situated on a quiet rural farm. At FMU5 we value and respect each other and we want our children and staff to be happy, confident, curious, kind and engaged learners (yes our staff are still learning all the time too!). Our surroundings evolve on a daily basis; we provide an exciting and stimulating environment, using natural, real and recycled materials where possible. We use open ended resources and loose parts to promote imaginative play throughout our sessions. We are very proud of our highly trained staff; our friendly small team are always striving to provide our children with exciting, child led, age appropriate activities. We very much value each member of staff and their strengths and uniqueness’s! Our children and their families are welcomed into our preschool family with open arms and we like to make our children feel secure and safe.

We incorporate 'planning in the moment' into our daily routines, capturing children’s learning at the very moment they are receptive to an idea, nurturing and questioning them to further their knowledge. We embed "characteristics of effective learning and British values” into everyday life, ensuring our children are accepting and resilient to an ever changing world. We encourage independence and appropriate safe risk taking in our beautiful indoor and outdoor areas, which offer a free flow choice between the two, ensuring our children are resilient and happy to explore in all weathers and seasons. We have a dedicated Forest School area that our children attend on a weekly rota. Our qualified level 3 leader ensures we have a beautifully resourced area that provides our children with holistic sustainable play, giving them opportunities to be an independent learner at one with nature, these include, den building, mud pit digging, bug hunting, model making, fire pit building, and finding out about our local flora and fauna.

Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities

Fontmell Magna Under Fives preschool provides a welcoming and fully inclusive early year provision. We aim to offer a safe environment where children can learn and thrive through play. Our building is fully accessible to wheelchair users and has low windows and double doors to the outside area which is also very accessible. We have disabled toilet facilities. FMU5’s (Fontmell Magna's Under Fives) have 2 members of staff who are trained SENCO’s and they have training in PEIC-D (Promoting early Interactive Conversation – Dorset), sign-a-long, I can talk, sensory processing, A.S.D training, Wellcomm Speech and Language tool kit training and inclusion. Our staff are always proactive with their training and try to attend courses that are relevant to the children’s needs that are in their care. The SENCO will work closely with children, parents/carers and the child’s keyworker to support them, so that the child can reach their full potential while attending our pre-school and support the transition when moving onto primary school. The SENCO will provide children with an individual plan if required and this will be reviewed with parents every 3 months or earlier if required. We work in partnership with the local authority and other external agencies including portage, speech and language and health visitors to ensure the best outcomes for children with SEND and their families. We fully support children with an EHC plan. Staff are first aid trained and if a child has a medical condition we will seek out training and advise in order to have a better understanding of how to care for this child
